Hail to the brush

The painter

goes hunting for colour.

Captures the soul and essence

of himself on a canvas.

A Language of all atmospheres.

Stories hidden in the reds and blues.

Time frozen at the stroke of a brush.

A deranged man,

at peace  amongst himself

and the things that make him

  1. Something about just seeing those brushes makes the would-be artist in me tingle! Great take on the prompt, Quaz. Thanks for joining the fray. Victoria

  2. brian says:

time frozen and stories hidden…nice encompassing statement on most art….a deranged man at home among himself….wonder how many artists fit that bill? nicely played…

  3. “A deranged man,
    at peace amongst himself
and the things that make him

Is it bad that I feel like this…a lot? lol, great piece 🙂

  4. ‘A Language of all atmospheres’ and ‘A deranged man, at peace amongst himself’ really struck me, fine response to the prompt.

  5. jinksy says:

Your link on my In Tandemlead me here – but I’m not sure whether you had another post in mind for that? Although a painterly subject is very apt! ♥

  6. jinksy says:

P.S. If you are playing the In Tandem game, a link back from your blog would be polite! LOL. 🙂

  8. Quaz… this took me right to Van Gough’s self portrait….. I don’t know if that’s what you had in mind… but an awesome poem…..

  9. claudia says:

capturing the essence of oneself with the brush..or with the pen as we poets do…the Language of all atmospheres…this is an awesome write

  10. hedgewitch says:

Indeed–I don’t think there’s any artist who hasn’t done a few self-portraits–though in another way, every picture is, as your poem points out, one of those.

  11. brian miller says:

smiles..i appreciate this much having dabbled in painting over the years….they do with brush what we try to do at words….art all of it…lovely verse…

  12. Pat Hatt says:

Think many an artist could fit this verse, nicely told!

  13. Chazzy Chazz says:

I love those last lines. You’ve set us up to think this would be another praise of the hero artist, yet the last lines show how the artist might be living in a kingdom of self-deception. Some might say the artist represents us all, when we try to falsely assume powers that the circumstances of life don’t support.
