Purple People and Blue People

Look at us.
Not willing to look
deep below the surface
Drawing lines
Cut and divide
United under separatism

Am I not as soft as you on the inside.
Weak with emotions
Plagued by fears
Hunting happiness
Just like you

When life sinks her
pearly whites into us,
does our sweet pain
not sing the exact same tune

Take a good look at us
Our packaging
Insists our ingredients are the same.

Why do you say otherwise

  1. Quirina says:

Our packaging … being human … insists our ingredients are the same … and this is so true, and yet we look different; we manifest differently in different places, cultures, religions, languages …

  2. claudia says:

wow…just speechless…love what you said…and even more how you say it..in a most creative and very simple yet top notch clever way…just awesome

  3. zongrik says:

    When life sinks her
    pearly whites into us,
    does our sweet pain
not sing the exact same tune -> not necessarily. people do experience pain in different ways. some people just are not neurologically wired to experience a lot of pain, others are trained not to feel it. some push it back. then there are people who over react to pain, and just want to cause drama.

  4. brian miller says:

when life sinks her pearly white so we not scream the same…yes we do…great thought there..and United under separatism…that is our society greatly…

  5. hedgewitch says:

Truer than true, and amazing how it still seems to need to be said–Shakespeare on down, we keep trying to break through to the logic you’re displaying here…no idea how some can live so blind to it. Excellent poem.

  6. booguloo says:

    Nice stanza.

    When life sinks her
    pearly whites into us,
    does our sweet pain
not sing the exact same tune

  7. isadoragruye says:

there are always those who want to draw lines (between your tap dance clan and my ballerina gang, as Ms. Amos is known to say). I really liked the idea of life sinking in its pearly white teeth to the same ingredient. Thanks for posting.

  8. seingraham says:

I love this; it’s almost Shakespearean in its simplicity, reminds me of Shylock’s “if you cut me, do I not bleed” in some respects … well done

  9. Oh! Jezz this is wonderful…we are all indeed the same inside.

  10. Chazzy Chazz says:

What comes thru for me is how clearly you’ve described the situation and brought from it derp insights into you, the other, and then humans in general. At first, I read it as describing all humans, but later I realized it was more personal. Still works, though, either way.

  11. ayala says:

    Great thoughts….

  12. Summer Rain says:

    smart metaphor,

    Thanks for inspiring.

  13. Boledi Tladi says:

Good stuff, really brought it home!

  14. C Rose says:

Perfect! Its all in our commonality, wonderfully penned. ~ Rose

  15. CC Champagne says:

Poignant and very true… Love it!
